Denise M. Blommel
ATTORNEY AT LAW
DENISE M. BLOMMEL is an attorney in Scottsdale, Arizona that has been in practice since 1978. She represents employers and employees in all employment and labor matters. Denise is admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of Arizona and Nevada and belongs to the Scottsdale Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Arizona Employment Lawyers Association.
As former Field Attorney with the National Labor Relations Board and a former Assistant Chief Counsel of the Industrial Commission of Arizona, Denise specializes in the employee-employer relationship. She is also a frequent presenter for government, business, educational, and community groups and serves on the Advisory Board for the University of Arizona’s Franke Honors College.
Denise also is one of the authors of the State Bar of Arizona’s Arizona Employment Law Handbook (topics of legislation, occupational safety and health and workers’ compensation procedures). She is co-author of four articles in the Arizona Attorney - see below for publications. Denise has served as Chair of the Employment and Labor Law and Workers’ Compensation Law Sections of the State Bar of Arizona. She was awarded the State Bar of Arizona’s Member of the Year for 1998-1999. The Employment and Labor Law Section named her Member of the Year in 2014. Denise is currently President-Elect of the Senior Lawyers Division.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Economics, Summa Cum Laude, Honors, Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Kappa Phi, from the University of Arizona. Her law degree is from Arizona State University. She was the second-place National Moot Court speaker, and a member of the second-place National Moot Court team, which also won the second place brief in 1977. That same year, Denise won the Jenckes Cup jury summation award. She taught Human Resources Law to Master of Legal Studies Students for Arizona State University during 2014 and 2015.
Denise served on the Board of Directors for Girl Scouts – Arizona Cactus-Pine Council for 20 years. The Girl Scouts awarded Denise the Thanks Badge in 2000; the Thanks Badge II in 2005, and the Impact Award in 2020 - their highest volunteer honors. Denise and her husband, Don Doerres, live in Scottsdale and are active at St. Patrick Catholic Community in Scottsdale.
